This comic was after the first few nameds of Anguish were on farm status, before we had ever cleared the whole thing. I was going to do an episodic version following the movie “Alien”, but this teaser didn’t get a great response so I didn’t continue with it.
This was my first comic for the Crimson Eternity news page. Prior to that, it was just screenshots of a mob, usually dead, usually mostly in a wall, and some group shots of guildies. The basic goal was to mark our kill and give everyone a chance to be in the news page. It was just what every other guild did.
Well, that was pretty boring, so I decided to combine both those with inside jokes, random things people said, and stuff I just made up because I thought it might be funny. They were a great recruiting tool; people could see that we were cool folks killing cool stuff with a sense of humor, and when they were looking for a guild, we’d be on their radar.
The best bit of this first comic was a mistell between a woman and her husband :)
This is one of my favorite ones. I was trying to figure out how to get more guildies in my screen shots. I usually didn’t have any decent ones that fit whatever plot I was trying to weave, so very often you’ll see people talking from offscreen. So I started colorizing some old photos I found via Google, used those two bankers in Katta as a news team, and had my theme. Actual screenshots of dead mobs were almost gone. Yay :) The “news” format gave me a framework to talk about random things like Anguish, Tacvi and Epics.
The only shots I had for our first kill in Demiplane were mob-in-wall shots. I really had no inspiration. Sashia made this nice picture with the Count (the first panel), then I figured I’d point out that after all, it’s just more bats (well, gargoyles). All the bats in EQ1 had been changed so I had to go to someone else’s page to get an “old” bat. I think I found this one on Allakhazam.
We killed more mobs, yadda yadda yadda, I had this Tenacious D song, F–k Her Gently, running through my head for some reason, so I set the comic to it with some words rearranged…
This was the last comic I did for CE. After this, I was pretty much playing EQ2 full time. The comic is a series of small vignettes dealing with the mobs we killed. I think the last panel turned out well. And then I got killed by a killer fairy :(
This one I did for our Queen Sandaii kill was short and funny. It included a jab at Jordis, who must have died a dozen times — she had her own pile of corpses. Little digs at Cheney and Bush :) We were just so happy to be moving out of those cesspits of Darkhollow and into the Demiplane at last.
This was my second or third comic. One of the couples in CE had a four year old son who was watching the raid on his dad’s lap. He even drew a picture of us after we’d wiped (yes, the last panel is part of the actual drawing). I thought that was a wonderful theme for the comic, so I went with it. The long, complicated strategy for killing Ture in the third panel is not much of an exaggeration of what the guy was telling us. He was more confused than us…
This is my best comic; it took about six hours to do on a Saturday. Unlike all my other comics, this one tells a story from the point of view of the boss, Vishimitar, a celebrity dragon with a couple of kids, likes partying, has annoying friends, and the last thing he needs is some stupid raid screwing up his schedule. Most of the panels have no PCs in them at all. I actually missed our first kill on this guy. Most of the pictures are from unsuccessful attempts. He’s actually dead in the panel where he’s cyboring Yar’lir — from our second kill, which I did attend. The last panel was from a screenshot I got from Sashia of our actual first kill.
Another joke at Buvins’ expense — being a bard, the assumption is his character is gay :)
This comic commemorated clearing Anguish, except for Overlord Mata Muram. Bondwyn is dying in the real world and being rezed into the game world, you see… the wizard and the earth elemental in the third panel are both my rogue Tipa in various illusions (was supposed to be a high elf mage and her pet). I was wondering if I could get away with pretending to be people in the guild so I could get some decent poses for comics instead of having to always be leaving people out of screenshots because they weren’t doing anything I could use. So most of the rest of the comic is just pictures of mobs. It’s all I had. The mob in the green light in the fifth panel isn’t Warden Hanvar; it was a cleric named Sefa who had been made to look like Hanvar by a jester.
That’s all my EQ1 comics. I have done a couple of others and may get back into it if things go well with Eternal Chaos.
