Well the theory behind the daily quests, from what I understand, is that the mob drops stuff, and when you get a stack or two of them, you hunt up the matching daily quest. I've never gone looking for daily quests in RoM; they've always found me.

The tokens you get have their own little store, and it does seem you need a lot of stuff to buy things with them. So I dunno how that's gonna play out.

The instances aren't WoW quality, but they are a fun romp. I've met some great people in RoM instances.

I might be a bit late replying but just wanted to say I enjoyed reading your thoughts on RoM. I recently downloaded it this weekend and having never played a free-to-play MMO I'm pretty impressed with it. Sure it isn't state of the art graphics, and the quest dialogue is definitely not top notch, but for a free game I was surprised at the number of features.

RoM has everything WoW does, instances, raids, pvp, battlegrounds, guilds, etc. I haven't done anything thus far other than solo, but that is just fine with me since I'm just looking for a casual game I can hop in and out of while I'm between subscription MMOs. The secondary class thing is a great idea and I can see how it would offer lots of flexibility, and would solve the whole issue of lack of tanks or healers if other games applied this idea.

However, I'm not crazy about being greeted with a bunch of daily quests that I have to do for those tokens which are apparently important later on. I got burned out on daily quests in WoW, so if you're looking to escape that this is kind of a let down.

It's not innovative but I'm glad to see F2P MMOs arrive with this level of polish and sophistication. It's not a subscription game that went F2P as an alternative, it was F2p out the gate and made a great showing for this model.

ROM is a pretty good game (thanks Saylah for recommending it!). It's not enough to make me sit up and devote my free time to it, but then, neither is WoW. I just don't have it in me to give myself over to the grind. That said, I did like ROM when I played it for a week or so, and don't really have any big problems with it. I like it, and I think that they are doing a lot of things right. It's good to see others have fun with it. Especially a fellow Scout. :)

The one thing ROM made me miss from WOW are the wide range and complexity of the instanced content and that was about all. For me it was that in between EQ2 and WOW thing, plus being free that got me hooked. If they hadn't screwed classes over with that launch day patch, I wouldn't have put it on ice for the new classes so I could re-roll the one time. I will be back when I have time to entertain two MMOs.

I never bought a mount in RoM. Actually never spent a dime in the game. By the end of my playtime there, I looked back and wished I had spent the $10 bucks on a mount. I really felt like I wasted my time, but I was too stubborn to pay up :P However, RoM just makes me want to go play WoW (which spoiled me for 4 years and makes me very biased).

RoM, for those that never played WoW, is probably a great game.

I'm glad you gave ROM a try. I think it's a great alternative to rolling yet another Alt in WOW. It's WOW-like but the class system is a nice change, as is the player housing, Guild Castles and the passive completion Daily Quests. You get all the housing you want in EQ2 but for straight from WOW players, the cheap enough RMT things you can do with your house I found lots of fun.
